Mix and Match.

I tried a new trend yesterday. Mixing prints. Not gonna lie, I was a little wary about trying this out but I figured I better try it while I'm young. So I did! But to make it less scary, I used two patterns that are considered neutrals in the fashion world: leopard and stripes. I choose them in the same color so it wasn't too crazy.

I then posted my pic on my facebook and had them all vote yes or no... and I got a really mixed review! Some people loved it. And others really hated it. One girl even said, and I quote, "Looks like something a fashion victim would wear... but you are on the right track!" What did I do after I read that? No, I did not cry in the bottom of my closet in shame. I was actually pretty excited. Trust me, I was not excited because somebody told me it didn't work, I was thrilled because people actually told me the truth and not what I wanted to hear! Well, I'm sure some of them did tell me I am awesome just to be nice, but either way, I am over the moon that people aren't afraid to hurt my feelings.

I like the honesty to keep coming! If you don't like something I do, tell me! If you want to see something, let me know! I really enjoy hearing feedback because it really helps me write. So way to be awesome everyone! :)

Love, Mika.

Feel Fabulous.

Such a cute piggy rocking the rain boots. :)
I'm totally getting one. Its happening.

I work at the Family Support Center of Southwestern Utah. What the heck is that?? Well it is a non-profit crisis nursery where we take care of children from 0-11. We give 3 hours a week of free child care to parents all over Cedar City. Why? The more often we give breaks to parents, the less they get stressed and that lowers the risk of child abuse and raises the chance of a happier and tighter family. I absolutely love my job. I get to work with some of the greatest kids around. On a good hand, I get paid to watch Disney movies and eat goldfish. On the other not so good hand, I deal with every little kid disaster imaginable. But in the end, its super rewarding to work there and the good and bad balance out in the end.

Why am I telling you this? Well because it is a big part of me and I think that the more you know about me, the more you understand what I am trying to say. I was at work the other day when one of my co-workers asked me how I could possibly work in 4 1/2 inch heels. And that made me think, "Why DO I wear sky high heels?" So I came to this conclusion. 1. They make my legs and butt look fabulous. 2. They make me freakishly tall. 3. They are super cute. But the reason that really caught my attention was, 4. They make me feel happier and better about myself. And when I feel great about myself, I carry myself better and work better! Feeling good about yourself makes a total difference about how your day goes. No, it won't keep bad things from happening throughout the day but you will definitely feel like you can take the crazy on!

My other mood booster clothing article is... underwear. But Mika, no one should be checking out your underwear. Yes, you are correct. BUT hear me out. I always always always make sure I wear cute underwear that makes me feel like a million bucks. Plus, you don't know what will happen! I am super paranoid that one day I'll get into another accident where they have to cut off my clothes and I am not letting anyone see ugly underwear thank you very much. Continuing onto why you should wear awesome underwear... Only you (or whomever you show I suppose) know that you are wearing sexy/adorable/fun underwear which makes you feel excited because its your own little secret. It personally makes me feel empowered, happy and super sexy. And who doesn't want to feel that?

Finally, my point is to get an article of clothing that you really enjoy wearing and that makes you feel really great. The right shoe or scarf or whatever makes a considerable difference in your day. I challenge everyone to find one thing and try it. It can be a necklace or a certain makeup look or a pair of awesome superhero briefs! So let me know what you picked and tell me if it changed your mood! Good luck pretties. :)

Love, Mika.

But Why Jenna Marbles?

As of recently, I started watching Jenna Marbles on Youtube. Jenna is a blonde Youtube comedian. She is a bit foul mouthed so all of you followers who are under (at least) 16, I forbid you to watch her. And those of you above 16, I am just warning you that she swears so watch with caution. Most of her videos are really funny but she occasionally has some serious ones with her opinions on various topics.

I came across the following video last week and it really made me think a little. In the video, she explains why girls hate each other so much. Much of what she is saying makes a lot of sense! So here is the video. It does use language! (This one isn't too bad but really its up to your own personal choice.)

You know, she has a point. It is constantly pummeled into our heads that we aren't good enough! And guess what? Wrong. Everyone telling us we are not pretty enough or talented enough or cool enough can go die in a deep, cold hole filled with spiders. Lots of spiders.

I had one high school teacher who didn't crap around and told people how it was. I learned more from him than any other person! Half way through my senior year, he got super sick and we all thought he had died because he just dropped off of the face of the Earth. But just before he left, he said one thing that stuck with me quite a bit. He told us everyone had one thing that they were made for. (Or something along those lines...) Since then, I have thought and thought about what my 'thing' was. I still haven't the slightest idea but I am quite determined to find out.

Reason I bring this up is because Jenna mentions that everyone is an individual and has one thing that makes them unique. If everyone would just accept who they were, there would be a lot less heartbreak and stress in the world. Plus, no one would be hatin' on each other because they would feel good about themselves. I know I hate on girls when I feel bad about myself. Tearing others down to feel better is a defense mechanism and we all do it. It doesn't make it right! So when I start feeling super bratty, I just have to take a step back and ask myself if I am making a legitimate argument or if I am just feeling bad. Then, I make myself mentally list things I like about them. It is a rather painful process but in the end, I feel a little better. I then make a list of things I like about myself that day because by the time I'm done listing things I like about the other girl, I am more open to liking myself.

I don't know! What do you think of Jenna's video? Does she have a good point? How do you make yourself feel better on a crappy day? Thoughts and questions and such are always welcome. :)

Love, Mika.

Dance Dance Revolution.

Yeah... I don't really know either. Just one of those days!

Ok this post really isn't about dancing. It is about New Years resolutions. But I figured that title wouldn't have been as exciting as this one. Also, feeling a little squirrely today. You were warned. Moving on. It has been two months since I last wrote. Ouch. I am so sorry! Again! You love me and you know it so take that. Wow I can already tell this is going to be a super spazy, squirelly, and otherwise completely random and jumpy article. Too bad I don't have glitter... then it could be sparkly too! (Side note: If you have ever watched 'What Caffeine Does' by Jenna Marbles on Youtube, you are understanding what is happening right now. If not, please check it out. But only if you are ok with a little swearing/crudeness and of appropriate age!)

Whoa horsey. Bring it back. So NYR rarely make it past January or February if you are lucky. This year I came up with a great way to keep my resolutions. I made a list of 10 to 12 smaller obtainable goals and 1 to 3 longer term goals. I assigned each month one or two goals to work on for 30 days. By dividing the goals and having new ones more often, I don't get bored with my goals. And I feel more accomplished when I reach one. I usually write the goals down on my calendar. With the long term goals, I write them at the bottom of each month on the calendar. I also type up my list, frame it, and hang it up where I see it often. But also move that around every so often too otherwise you will just get used to it and not see it. Remember to revise your list if the current one isn't working.

What is on my list this year? Well read on lovelies! Also they aren't in any particular order.
1. Get permanent teeth (its been three years. CHECK.)
2. Dress up and go to Comic Con (Nerds are the new cool kids.)
3. Find a place to live (really important!)
4. Get a car (CHECK. What what!)
5. Have crazy hair (CHECK.)
6. Say nicer things and stop gossiping (seriously it will make everyone's lives so much better.)
7. Write more letters (missionaries and random thank you letters.)
8. Do random acts of kindness (leave cookies for someone having a bad day and so on.)
9. Sew at least once a week (I should get patterns.)
10. Blog at least once every two weeks (so far so good!)
11. Donate more things that I don't need or use anymore (goodbye clutter! And CHECK.)
12. Save more money (for my shoe store) and write down all purchases.
13. Drink more water (So. Important. It has such fabulous health benefits!)
14. Leave random encouraging sticky notes places where strangers can find them.
15. Smile more (life could be worse) and compliment more.

That's my list! What is on yours? What are your thoughts on my new NYR set up? Comments and questions always rock. :)

Love, Mika.

Mika's Excuse.

So... originally I had this entire post on shoes. And Blogspot erased THE ENTIRE THING. I'm not happy Bob. Not. Happy. Therefore, I am rewriting this in a slightly bitter fashion. And by slightly, I mean if I type any harder on my keyboard, my nails may break... and that would be tragic. But I did take a pic of every shoe I own so it did lift my spirits a little. But this article will not be as long as the last one I wrote.

I am going to start off by apologizing that I never post. Unlike Kaeli, I don't go to school but I do constantly work. Hopefully sometime in the near future, my life will slow down. I do have surgery coming up soon so I will be in bed a lot so that means a lot of down time and a lot more posting.

Recently, I went shoe shopping for the first time in roughly six months. As such, I kind of went a little crazy when I walked in Forever Young Shoes in the University Mall in Orem, Utah. I may or may not have bought... 7 pairs of shoes. Oops. But I got all of them under $100! That is like $14 dollars a pair. You. Can. Not. Resist. That. If I find out you do pass that up, I will haunt you forever cause its a crime equal in severity to kicking a puppy with two legs. At Forever Young Shoes, they have a punch card where you buy seven pairs of shoes and get one free. And they always have the clearance wall chock full of wonderful shoes, all for BOGO 1/2 off. It is literally Shoe Heaven. When I find an article of clothing that I love, I have a signature reaction that I do.
1. I gasp (a little dramatically)
2. I strike the "awkward penguin pose" (which looks like I have to pee really bad)
3. I run over to it and stroke it a little

Yeah I know its a little embarrassing looking but it is involuntary! I can't help it! And I can't buy anything without these reactions!

When I walked in this time, the sales lady greeted us in the normal fashion and then my mum and I proceeded to browse. And by browse, I mean nearly ran about the store squealing in delight. Apparently the sales lady noticed and she walked over to us. What did she say to me? "I just love watching you. You look like a little kid in a candy store! Its so cute." ..... Yeah it was a little embarrassing and I toned it down just a touch after that. But she was absolutely correct! But instead of candy, its like cocaine to me. But even though I really can't resist shoes, I never ever ever spend more than $40 dollars on shoes. And that includes boots baby cakes!

That is all I have for now! What is your favorite shoe designer or store or brand? Comments, chew outs, questions and suggestions are always welcome! Ok maybe chew outs are not always welcome but today they are because I have been slacking.

Love, Mika.

Oh! P.S.- Below are pics of some of my shoes. To see the entire collection, add me as a friend on Facebook and in the message, say you are a fan of our blog! Otherwise, I will question who you are. Safety first!

Love, Mika.

A new season of the blog returns soon... stay tuned!

Hey, I don't know exactly what Mika's excuse is, but I've been working and schooling (not in the cool way) and with every spare moment I study or try to have a social life and have therefore neglected this blog, and the cleaning of my bedroom, so those are my two things "to-do" for the day. I'm not sure what I'm posting about yet... So basically, I'm here, alive and more is coming soon. To be continued...

Just.... No.

So it has been an entire month since I last got on here! I'm so sorry that I'm lame and not on top of things. I recently went to Lagoon with my best friend Zachary, my brother Yoshi, Yoshi's girlfriend Dani and my Mum. I had never gone before and it was pretty fun I must admit. The only bad parts were:
A. The prices were a little ridiculous.
B. Its a good four hour drive from where I live.
C. There was no fashion sense... at all.

If you have ever been to Disneyland, you will notice the abundance of little emo children running about. This can be said about Lagoon! Except when I say emo, I mean total 'whiskey tangos.' (Whiskey tango= a tad trashy.) Seriously, it sounds mean but I was a little scarred. I mean, there are children running around! I know its semi hot but please COVER UP. Its called being respectful.

Anyhow as I was trying to contain my horror, I thought to myself, "Gee Mika, don't be so rude. Maybe they just don't know how to dress for a public gathering." So I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were never taught what is appropriate. So this post is about dressing for theme park fun! I know that those of you who do actually read these probably don't dress whiskey tango, so focus more on inspiration for the next outfit. :)

Outfit choice 1: The Infamous Sundress.

Remember that post I did on sundresses? (No? Go back and check it. Its called Summer Staple.) Sundresses are fabulous! They are so comfy and look fabulous. Not to mention, it takes like five seconds tops to get into them. Sundresses are good if it is a water park/theme park combo. Make sure you wear your suit underneath your dress and voila! Done.

Outfit Idea 2: High waisted shorts and cute tank combo.

Check out the cute sailor inspired shorts on the left! I need a pair of these. Badly. So lightweight and so cute! Plus, they look like they have sweet pocket space. Pair these with a floral or striped tank. Or if you are feeling daring, wear a retro crop top!

Strappy gladiator sandals are key when you visit a theme park. If you wear flip flops, they could fly off your feet on some rides. And by could, I actually mean will. Keds and Converse also work fantastically if you need more padding/support when you walk. Oh! Also, make sure you have a water proof ziplock baggie for your phone and other items that must be protected! Tip: Pick a dress or a pair of shorts with good pockets. If all else fails, store in your bra/swim top. Pull your hair up so when it gets wet, it won't get too crazy. Also, don't wear loose accessories. They will fly off! That means no sunglasses as well. I mean, I suppose you could have those as long as someone held them for you off the ride or if they fit in your pocket.

Again I am so sorry for never posting. :( I will try to be more diligent! What do you wear to the amusement park? Comments and questions welcome! :)
