Controversy.

And all the beauty articles say, (including us)  "Love your insecurities! Embrace your flaws!" Truth is, it can be so darn hard to even like them! Everyone has features that they don't feel comfortable with. I am built like a Barbie and I still have things I dislike about me. For instance, I absolutely loathe my ears. I am extremely self conscience about them and rarely put my hair up. I still get teased about how big they are so I rarely put my hair up. And it makes me so sad because I love showing off my cheek bones and I love up dos.

So what is my point? It is OK to not like something about you! Just don't let it stop you from doing things you love. You can always work around the undesirable areas. I work ponytails now by teasing my roots a little before I tie it up instead of slicking it down so my ears are half covered. There are always solutions.

Don't give up. You ARE beautiful. Just gotta learn to work what ya got! :)

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub

While I was on Pinterest today, I came across a facial scrub that claimed to remove blackheads. I have been looking for a blackhead mask so I tried it!

It was made of 1/4 cup milk and 1 tbs baking soda. You are suppose to mix it and apply with a soft makeup sponge to the biggest problem areas. I was lazy and didn't want to get a makeup sponge so I just used my finger to mix and quickly apply to my face which worked just fine. I worked it into my face and I must admit, it felt really cool. I then wiped off the mixture with a wet washcloth but was a little surprised at how scratchy it felt while I had the cloth on my face. (With my finger, it felt very soft because of the fine grain of the baking soda.)

After I wiped it all off though, I checked my blackhead situation. To my (not) surprise, I still had a multitude of blackheads. But I did notice my face felt insanely smooth and super soft. The baking soda did a great job sloughing off all the dead skin.

I use baking soda religiously now. And on my entire body. I use it on my hands, my legs, my face. I just keep it in a container on my bathroom counter. It makes everything so silky smooth. I don't even use it with milk now. I just throw some on my wet skin, rub it in like soap, rinse and lotion up! Moisturizing is very important after especially on your face because its gets really oily if you don't. (A light moisturizer works just fine for oily skin.) Hello beautiful skin just in time for summer. :)

I now swear by baking soda. I suggest it to everyone at work because we always have gross hands from washing them so often/cleaning. And it is really cheap! Who knows a good blackhead removal mask? Also did anyone try this/what were your results?

Hey everyone!
Sorry that you never hear from me anymore. Truth is, I run three blogs now, and this one is really Mika's not mine. I'm not exactly fashion guru or anything. My job here is pretty much to make the rest of you look good. Oh... and feel good. Yeah, I'm more of the inner beauty type gal. Anyway, heads up... I didn't forget about any of you lovely people! I love you all. I hope you keep reading this Blog because Mika is truly inspirational! And tons of fun too. But, I am going on a mission, and so I'm not gonna be around here much longer. I hope you all stick around and listen to Mika though! Keep reading the blog, and remember to always BE-YOU-Tiful and know that you are wonderful. Never stop believing in yourself!

Affirmative Kelly.

I have no internet at my new house. :( Sad. Day. How am I suppose to stalk on Facebook now?? So posts from me will be limited until I can remedy the situation. But while I was on, I was reading Glamour online when I came across an article about Kelly Osborn. I'm not sure about you, but I love everything about her. From her style, to her perseverance and to her cute little accent, she is just plain awesome. The article was talking about how she gained her body confidence. And not to brag, but it followed closely to what I was saying earlier last year about loving yourself. So check out the link here! ---> http://www.glamour.com/health-fitness/2012/04/kelly-osbourne-dos-and-donts-of-body-confidence

Intro to Mikafying.

Dang it. I was doing so good! I don't know what happen! Actually I do! I have traveled a lot and had medical stuff going down on top of work. Oh and I have been working on my future career! That's right. I am designing shoes as well as giving my friend's shoes makeovers. And I must say, I absolutely love it. As most of you know, I have a heart problem that makes it hard to do a lot of physical activity. I discovered I can redo the shoes on the days that I can't go to work or when I'm exhausted from my heart. Its so convenient and I am really happy that I can still work my passion for shoes even if I can't do other, more strenuous things like taking care of kids.
Anyhow, I suppose I should tell you about what I do. I call my shoes, "Mikafied" because I am so not creative when it comes to naming things. (I mean I named my pig 'Peanut' because he is a pig and pig starts with 'p' and peanut also starts with 'p.' Thus, Peanut's name came about.) Back to shoes though. I take an old pair of shoes and I cover them with fabric., securing it with glue. Then, I take trim and go around the bottom and wherever I feel it should go. Then, I add embellishments or whatever. Sometimes I cut up the shoe for cut outs or if I want to change the silhouette of the shoe. Example? I took a pair of shiny, black knee high boots and transformed them into leopard print ankle booties with gold and black trim.

How I Got Started:
My friend/coworker/roommate Christina loves shoes. But she is afraid of getting 'crazy' shoes because... well actually I don't know why she is afraid of it. All I know is she gave me a bunch of her old, plain shoes and told me to make them pretty. So I did! I was really scared at first because I had never done anything like it but in the end, they worked out great! Well, except for the glue. I'm having issues with that still so if any one knows what glue works best for a permanent bond on all surfaces, please let me know! So far I have finished three pairs of shoes and am currently working on the 4th (which is a glitter pair so I'm super psyched cause who doesn't love sparkly things?) I spent kind of a lot to get started. I bought glue and fabric and trim and whatever I needed but after the first one, everything gets cheaper. So I definitely recommend this to crafty people because it is easy and cheap (ish.)

Comments and questions welcomed! Find me on Facebook! I am on every day or follow me on Pinterest cause I have one now! Or email me at mikascott13@yahoo.com ... Love you all :) Thank you for still reading even though I'm a terrible blogger!

Mix and Match.

I tried a new trend yesterday. Mixing prints. Not gonna lie, I was a little wary about trying this out but I figured I better try it while I'm young. So I did! But to make it less scary, I used two patterns that are considered neutrals in the fashion world: leopard and stripes. I choose them in the same color so it wasn't too crazy.

I then posted my pic on my facebook and had them all vote yes or no... and I got a really mixed review! Some people loved it. And others really hated it. One girl even said, and I quote, "Looks like something a fashion victim would wear... but you are on the right track!" What did I do after I read that? No, I did not cry in the bottom of my closet in shame. I was actually pretty excited. Trust me, I was not excited because somebody told me it didn't work, I was thrilled because people actually told me the truth and not what I wanted to hear! Well, I'm sure some of them did tell me I am awesome just to be nice, but either way, I am over the moon that people aren't afraid to hurt my feelings.

I like the honesty to keep coming! If you don't like something I do, tell me! If you want to see something, let me know! I really enjoy hearing feedback because it really helps me write. So way to be awesome everyone! :)

Love, Mika.

Feel Fabulous.

Such a cute piggy rocking the rain boots. :)
I'm totally getting one. Its happening.

I work at the Family Support Center of Southwestern Utah. What the heck is that?? Well it is a non-profit crisis nursery where we take care of children from 0-11. We give 3 hours a week of free child care to parents all over Cedar City. Why? The more often we give breaks to parents, the less they get stressed and that lowers the risk of child abuse and raises the chance of a happier and tighter family. I absolutely love my job. I get to work with some of the greatest kids around. On a good hand, I get paid to watch Disney movies and eat goldfish. On the other not so good hand, I deal with every little kid disaster imaginable. But in the end, its super rewarding to work there and the good and bad balance out in the end.

Why am I telling you this? Well because it is a big part of me and I think that the more you know about me, the more you understand what I am trying to say. I was at work the other day when one of my co-workers asked me how I could possibly work in 4 1/2 inch heels. And that made me think, "Why DO I wear sky high heels?" So I came to this conclusion. 1. They make my legs and butt look fabulous. 2. They make me freakishly tall. 3. They are super cute. But the reason that really caught my attention was, 4. They make me feel happier and better about myself. And when I feel great about myself, I carry myself better and work better! Feeling good about yourself makes a total difference about how your day goes. No, it won't keep bad things from happening throughout the day but you will definitely feel like you can take the crazy on!

My other mood booster clothing article is... underwear. But Mika, no one should be checking out your underwear. Yes, you are correct. BUT hear me out. I always always always make sure I wear cute underwear that makes me feel like a million bucks. Plus, you don't know what will happen! I am super paranoid that one day I'll get into another accident where they have to cut off my clothes and I am not letting anyone see ugly underwear thank you very much. Continuing onto why you should wear awesome underwear... Only you (or whomever you show I suppose) know that you are wearing sexy/adorable/fun underwear which makes you feel excited because its your own little secret. It personally makes me feel empowered, happy and super sexy. And who doesn't want to feel that?

Finally, my point is to get an article of clothing that you really enjoy wearing and that makes you feel really great. The right shoe or scarf or whatever makes a considerable difference in your day. I challenge everyone to find one thing and try it. It can be a necklace or a certain makeup look or a pair of awesome superhero briefs! So let me know what you picked and tell me if it changed your mood! Good luck pretties. :)

Love, Mika.

But Why Jenna Marbles?

As of recently, I started watching Jenna Marbles on Youtube. Jenna is a blonde Youtube comedian. She is a bit foul mouthed so all of you followers who are under (at least) 16, I forbid you to watch her. And those of you above 16, I am just warning you that she swears so watch with caution. Most of her videos are really funny but she occasionally has some serious ones with her opinions on various topics.

I came across the following video last week and it really made me think a little. In the video, she explains why girls hate each other so much. Much of what she is saying makes a lot of sense! So here is the video. It does use language! (This one isn't too bad but really its up to your own personal choice.)

You know, she has a point. It is constantly pummeled into our heads that we aren't good enough! And guess what? Wrong. Everyone telling us we are not pretty enough or talented enough or cool enough can go die in a deep, cold hole filled with spiders. Lots of spiders.

I had one high school teacher who didn't crap around and told people how it was. I learned more from him than any other person! Half way through my senior year, he got super sick and we all thought he had died because he just dropped off of the face of the Earth. But just before he left, he said one thing that stuck with me quite a bit. He told us everyone had one thing that they were made for. (Or something along those lines...) Since then, I have thought and thought about what my 'thing' was. I still haven't the slightest idea but I am quite determined to find out.

Reason I bring this up is because Jenna mentions that everyone is an individual and has one thing that makes them unique. If everyone would just accept who they were, there would be a lot less heartbreak and stress in the world. Plus, no one would be hatin' on each other because they would feel good about themselves. I know I hate on girls when I feel bad about myself. Tearing others down to feel better is a defense mechanism and we all do it. It doesn't make it right! So when I start feeling super bratty, I just have to take a step back and ask myself if I am making a legitimate argument or if I am just feeling bad. Then, I make myself mentally list things I like about them. It is a rather painful process but in the end, I feel a little better. I then make a list of things I like about myself that day because by the time I'm done listing things I like about the other girl, I am more open to liking myself.

I don't know! What do you think of Jenna's video? Does she have a good point? How do you make yourself feel better on a crappy day? Thoughts and questions and such are always welcome. :)

Love, Mika.

Dance Dance Revolution.

Yeah... I don't really know either. Just one of those days!

Ok this post really isn't about dancing. It is about New Years resolutions. But I figured that title wouldn't have been as exciting as this one. Also, feeling a little squirrely today. You were warned. Moving on. It has been two months since I last wrote. Ouch. I am so sorry! Again! You love me and you know it so take that. Wow I can already tell this is going to be a super spazy, squirelly, and otherwise completely random and jumpy article. Too bad I don't have glitter... then it could be sparkly too! (Side note: If you have ever watched 'What Caffeine Does' by Jenna Marbles on Youtube, you are understanding what is happening right now. If not, please check it out. But only if you are ok with a little swearing/crudeness and of appropriate age!)

Whoa horsey. Bring it back. So NYR rarely make it past January or February if you are lucky. This year I came up with a great way to keep my resolutions. I made a list of 10 to 12 smaller obtainable goals and 1 to 3 longer term goals. I assigned each month one or two goals to work on for 30 days. By dividing the goals and having new ones more often, I don't get bored with my goals. And I feel more accomplished when I reach one. I usually write the goals down on my calendar. With the long term goals, I write them at the bottom of each month on the calendar. I also type up my list, frame it, and hang it up where I see it often. But also move that around every so often too otherwise you will just get used to it and not see it. Remember to revise your list if the current one isn't working.

What is on my list this year? Well read on lovelies! Also they aren't in any particular order.
1. Get permanent teeth (its been three years. CHECK.)
2. Dress up and go to Comic Con (Nerds are the new cool kids.)
3. Find a place to live (really important!)
4. Get a car (CHECK. What what!)
5. Have crazy hair (CHECK.)
6. Say nicer things and stop gossiping (seriously it will make everyone's lives so much better.)
7. Write more letters (missionaries and random thank you letters.)
8. Do random acts of kindness (leave cookies for someone having a bad day and so on.)
9. Sew at least once a week (I should get patterns.)
10. Blog at least once every two weeks (so far so good!)
11. Donate more things that I don't need or use anymore (goodbye clutter! And CHECK.)
12. Save more money (for my shoe store) and write down all purchases.
13. Drink more water (So. Important. It has such fabulous health benefits!)
14. Leave random encouraging sticky notes places where strangers can find them.
15. Smile more (life could be worse) and compliment more.

That's my list! What is on yours? What are your thoughts on my new NYR set up? Comments and questions always rock. :)

Love, Mika.
